Ziv Hajbi

The terrorist entered the office where Ziv and Kim worked, tied them up, and shot them from close range. Medics who appeared on the scene were unable to revive them.

Ziv leaves behind his parents, wife, and three children under the age of seven. May his memory be a blessing.

Both Ziv and Kim were employees of at the Alon Group recycling factory in the industrial park – an area known as an oasis of co-existence between Jews and Arabs. Half of the 8,000 workers in the zone are Israeli Jews and half are Palestinians. Ziv worked as an accountant.

The terrorist had also worked at the Alon Group as an electrician. He was able to enter the complex because of his work permit. He also managed to sneak in a submachine gun, which he used to shoot Ziv and Kim, and a third person who entered the room after hearing a noise. The woman, 58, was shot in the stomach but survived the attack. She was in stable condition when she was evacuated to a local hospital.

At his funeral, Ziv’s mother Iris described her son as someone who loved life and loved his work. “He was an amazing child, an amazing and pure soul that left behind three children and an amazing woman. On Saturday he would have celebrated his 35th birthday. I have to bury my son at the age of 35. What have I done wrong in my life, what will happen now?”

She said she knew her son was one of the casualties even before she was informed of the news. “We understood what happened when we heard the mention of Barkan,” she said. “I called him and he did not answer, then we heard that two people are critically wounded and it became clear.”
