Hayil Satawi

Three terrorists opened fire on a group of policemen close to the Temple Mount, hitting Hayil and Kamil in the upper body. Both succumbed to their wounds within hours. The terrorists were killed in a shootout with police. After their bodies were examined, police found more weapons, indicating a bigger attack was planned.

Hayil lived in mostly-Druze town of town of Marhar. He leaves behind his parents, three siblings, his wife of 11 months, and three-week old baby.

Hayil had joined the Israeli Police Force in 2012, after his mandatory military service in the border guards unit.

At his funeral, his cousin, Sheikh Asaid Satawi, lamented the conflict that leaves a three-week-old baby without a father. “I hope these would be the last casualties of this conflict. Enough with the bloodshed,” he said.

“The service in Jerusalem is dangerous, that’s well known, but he loved helping people. Everyone around him loved him and his laughter. He was a man who gave happiness to anyone who knew him.”
